Students will speak, listen, read, and write Portuguese at the ACTFL advanced low level or higher.

Students will operate between cultures by reflecting on the world and their place in it through the lens of another language and culture. They will demonstrate cultural knowledge of Brazil, as well as Portugal and other Portuguese-speaking countries, by acquiring critical language awareness, historical and political consciousness, social sensibility, and aesthetic appreciation.

Students will articulate and defend, in speech and writing, clear and orderly thought on literary, historical, and cultural topics. They will evaluate and synthesize primary, critical, and theoretical sources germane to Brazilian or Portuguese and Lusophone studies.
