Upon successful completion of the Upper-Division Communication/Writing Requirement, students will be able to:

  • Write and communicate clearly and effectively within the standards and conventions established within a specific genre and/or discipline.

  • Incorporate feedback to revise their writing for at least one assignment.

  • Use multiple forms of writing and/or communication in ways that are adapted to the needs of specific purposes and/or audiences.

Students will develop and refine their skills for analytical thinking, reading, and writing in French. This course will prepare students to continue on to more advanced courses on literature, cinema, and culture in French by helping them build the base of knowledge and skills to express themselves coherently and intelligently in written and oral French.

Students will improve their reading and writing skills in French by producing essays that hone skills for close textual and visual analysis.

Students will improve their speaking and listening competencies in French by participating in focused discussions, small group work, and/or oral presentations informed by the works of cultural expression studied in the course.
